The hospitality industry is all about taking care of people and giving guests a great experience. Whether that experience is a three-course meal, a relaxing weekend away, or a knock off beer in the local pub, I’m proud to say that our industry in Tasmania does it exceptionally well.
But when we’re working long hours in a profession that runs 24/7, and focusing on making sure our guests are happy, it can be easy to forget that we need to look after ourselves as well. Add in the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, which so many of our industry colleagues are still feeling the impact of almost two and a half years in, and it’s no surprise that our own wellbeing is often last on the list of priorities.
We want to help make sure that everyone in our industry right across Tasmania has the opportunity and resources to look after themselves physically, mentally and emotionally. We recently secured grant funding from the state government to develop and deliver a health and wellbeing program to help support you, your staff and your families.
HOSPO HEALTH is a program that you can access at any time in a location that works for you. It’s designed to add value – there’s no cost to take part – and is available to anyone in the sector, whether you’re a business owner or a casual employee. Most of the program will be delivered online with learning videos, fact sheets, online short courses and podcasts. We also deliver personalised health checks in businesses around Tasmania.
HOSPO HEALTH has been designed by our THA Chief Happiness Officer, Sherri Ring. Many of you will know Sherri through her role as Director of Energy Health Concepts, and also as the Creator of The Mind Games. Sherri has put together a program that covers everything from injury prevention to mindfulness, financial health to how to eat well when you’re doing shift work, and much more.
As the lead coach Sherri is supported by a team of professionals sharing their expertise, and I encourage everyone across the industry to jump on the website and take advantage of HOSPO HEALTH.
I’m really excited to be a part of the HOSPO HEALTH program. It sits alongside the mental health education and services we provide, and incorporates a vast range of health and wellbeing topics. We’ve made sure it can be delivered at no cost to anyone in the hospitality industry.
